I just love the way the sun sparkles in the snow, it is like a mountain side of diamonds. We had our first snow storm over the past few days and it's beginning to feel a bit like the holidays. I am anxious to see if Tamarack opens up for the ski season, mostly because I live there and would enjoy watching the skiers take advantage of the beautiful resort. In most places in th USA it's spring, in McCall, there is still snow on the ground. And that means that we're still skiing, snow boarding, and other winter activities. I'm not sure how much longer it will last, though. It's supposed to be in the 50's tomorrow! But I just looked at the 10 day weather forecast and it's showing snow next week, so who knows? Everyone has been saying we're going to have an early Spring, the snows been melting, the sun has been shining, it's been beautiful! But with an early Spring comes an abbreviated ski season and a very dry summer, which hurts our economy. Forever the devils advocate, I kept saying to all these wanna be meteorologists, "it's only the first week of March we've had snow in June before, there's plenty of time for more snow." In fact we could get another two or three feet of that glorious white stuff. Low and behold when I walked outside this morning to go to work it was snowing and it's been snowing ever since. It's supposed to snow tomorrow too, and a couple more days this week, and possibly some more next week. So that's fantastic news for all you snowmobilers, skiers, and boarders!! It's also great news for those of you who only venture up here in the summer. It means more wild flowers, morels, huckleberry's, higher water levels, greener grass. The stars were shining brightly last night, and I swear I could see every one of them. Not like in the city when you have lights interfering with their brilliance. It's times like that, when just the simple beauty of nature takes my breath away I realize how lucky I am to live here. Today the sun is shining, the sky is blue, no smog in site. This is the best time of year to come up and ski, board, snowmobile and or just hang out and relax. The lift lines are short, the trails are nicely groomed, and the restaurants aren't jammed packed, so you get better service. I think visitors don't realize how much there is to do in McCall 365 days a year. McCall is a great get away anytime of the year for all ages. You can usually ski from late November through mid April, and in April when there's still snow up on Brundage, we usually have wildflowers starting to poke through the ground. So we have the pleasure of two seasons at once. Winter Carnival was a huge success this year! With thousands of visitors from all over the world attending. One of my co-workers is a ski instructor at Brundage Mountain Ski Resort and he said he had students as far away as Amsterdam.
